Doing the General Cleaning

First, let us look into the type of kitchen cleaning that would require most of your effort and time.

General cleaning takes a longer time to finish and should be done at least twice a year or as desired. It is not just an impromptu type of cleaning since it requires a well planned preparation and should be scheduled so that there are no interruptions. Here are the things you should do in general cleaning.

1. Survey the area. The first thing you must do is to identify the areas that require most of your cleaning attention. Determine the amount of effort you must apply in each area, this will help you decide which part to do first. You should also consider your cleaning materials and who will be doing the cleaning, this way you will now how much to cover and how long the cleaning will take.

2. Gather all cleaning materials. Place every cleaning supply in a single area placing the most used tool in the most reachable position. It is advisable to use more natural products since it is less damaging to both the appliances and the skin.

3. Place kitchen utensils in a basket. Place all utensils in a basket, a box or just place them in an area where it is not getting in the way but is easy to get to them. Separate perishable items and throw any unwanted things.

4. Wear protective gear. It is unavoidable that your hands would come in contact with chemicals and even germs. Wear gloves in order to protect your hands from any corrosive substances and at the same time to avoid any irritation from chemicals or even germs. You may also opt to use a mask to protect your lungs from dust and any unwanted smells which could affect your health. If you’re using a chemical-based product, you may switch to a more natural since it is way better and is less damaging to your health. You may even try creating your own formula that would suit your cleaning needs.

5. Do things from top to bottom. Always do things starting from the top then down to the floor. Choose the area which requires most of your attention. The dirtiest part would be the hardest part and doing it first is the smartest thing to do since it will cover the biggest portion of the cleaning. If you get exhausted on that part, you could always do the task some other time since it only needs minor attention.

6. Do the dusting first. Remove dust first in order to make things more easy to clean. This will also remove any unwanted particles that could mess up your cleaning.

7. Wipe any grime. Once you’re done removing the dust, use a wet cloth to remove accumulated grime on the tile or the appliances. Make sure to cover even the smallest area since grime and molds could leave an unpleasant texture if left unattended.

8. Do the sink. Remove any debris or excess foods by doing a quick rinse. Do it for a few minutes and apply a good scrub while doing the rinsing.

9. Clean the appliances. Wipe all appliances inside and out. Start with the microwave, if there is one, and then do the stove and other cooking equipment. Then, do the refrigerator. Start with removing all of its contents and removed any unwanted items.

10. The final touch. After everything is clean, sweep the dust and other particles on the floor. Mop out any grime and give the floor a shiny final touch.
